Finding the perimeter of rectilinear shapes can be difficult for learners particularly when there are missing lengths to calculate. This worksheet focuses on finding missing lengths in rectilinear shapes and is structured to build pupils' confidence slowly.
Learners will begin by identifying and highlighting opposite sides that are equal in irregular hexagons (‘L’ shapes) and constructing addition statements for them.
The first four shapes that students will find missing lengths of are drawn on a square grid to emphasise the equal lengths. In section B all shapes are drawn on a blank background in order to gradually increase the challenge.
All lengths are found using addition (apart from the last question where subtraction is required), are highlighted clearly on the page and are measured in cm or square units.
