This resource has been designed to introduce your learners to the concept of adding and subtracting algebraic fractions.

Section A is a set of 8 minimally different fraction addition and subtraction questions, starting with numerical fractions. This section is designed to get pupils thinking about the mechanics of fraction addition and how this is different when working with algebraic fractions. Following this, section B is a fill the gaps task; which will further deepen students' understanding as they are required to move from question to answer and vice versa.

In Section C, students will articulate their understanding as they spot, explain and correct common mistakes in two questions and answers.

Section D and E provide more extension and consolidation as learners answer 6 further questions and solve two addition pyramids.

Students are not required to factorise or expand and quadratic expressions throughout the worksheet.
