This worksheet guides students through using Pythagoras’ Theorem to calculate the area or six regular hexagons.
In questions 1 - 3, learners are asked to first find the vertical height of an equilateral triangle inside the hexagon using Pythagoras but are required to deduce how to use this to calculate the area of the whole hexagon.
Questions 4 - 6 simply ask students to calculate the area of the hexagons.
This activity will test pupils’ problem solving and communication skills and makes for a lovely extension to work on Pythagoras’ theorem, regular polygons, or area.
Why not challenge learners to devise a formula for their calculations?
