Help your students master finding the area of trapezia with this worksheet that encourages students to think deeper than substituting values into the formula for the area of a trapezium.
In section A, pupils will find the areas of four trapezia by splitting the quadrilaterals into a rectangle and one or two triangles.
Then in section B, learners split a further four trapezia into two triangles in order to find the areas.
The formula is developed in section C where two congruent trapezia are joined to form either rectangles or parallelograms. Students find the areas of the whole shape before halving to find the area of each trapezium.
Lastly, learners will use the formula to find the area of three more trapezia.
