Expanding Double Brackets (A) Using the Grid Method worksheet description

Introduce your students to expanding double brackets with this worksheet that uses algebra tiles and the area model/grid method throughout.

Section A begins with an example showing the method using algebra tiles and the next couple of questions are scaffolded to ease learners in. The section also starts with only positive terms and builds to seeing students expanding brackets with both positive and negative terms, including negative variables.

Starting again with an example, section B consists of expressions that when expanded, x2 have a coefficient different to 1 and -1.

x is the only variable used throughout the worksheet to give your students consistency.
