Continue the progress of your learners by now, considering fractions equivalent to one-third.
Section A asks students to state what fraction of each shape is shaded and then if they can identify any images which also show one-third shaded. There is room for thought as students are asked, "what do you notice?" thus encouraging students to think about how they can identify fractions equivalent to one-third in the future.
Section B takes this a step further by asking learners to shade in a third of 5 different images.
A fraction wall is introduced in section C to give students variety in the representation of fractions and enables them to see clearly how different fractions can be equivalent. This would be a good time to discuss any other equivalent fractions they can see.
Finally, in section D, students put all of their learning together to find fractions equivalent to one-third when they are given either a numerator or a denominator.
