Lines Parallel to the Axes are divided into three sections, each designed to progressively develop an understanding of lines that are parallel to the x- and y-axes.
In Section A, students begin by identifying specific coordinates that lie along a horizontal and a vertical line in order for them to deduce the equations of the lines and consider the characteristics of lines with equations x = a and y = b.
Section B provides fluency practice as pupils match up lines and equations, plot and label lines on a given coordinate grid, and label 4 lines pre-drawn on a grid.
In Section C, students are challenged with more problem-solving tasks that involve identifying intersections and analysing the relationships between coordinates and lines. They also engage with true or false questions that test their understanding of line properties, such as the distinction between horizontal and vertical lines.
