Algebraic Proofs (C) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: Geometry, Algebra II
CCSS: HSA.APR.C.4
CCSS Description: Prove polynomial identities and use them to describe numerical relationships. For example, the polynomial identity (x² + y²)² = (x² – y²)² + (2xy)² can be used to generate Pythagorean triples.

Algebraic Proofs (C) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet builds on the work done in Algebraic Proofs (B) by using the basic concepts of writing expressions for even numbers, odd numbers, consecutive numbers, etc, and asking for more complicated sums, differences, and squares to prove statements such as "Prove algebraically the difference between the squares of any two consecutive even numbers is always a multiple of 4" and proving a ratio using Pythagoras' Theorem.
