Area Decomposition (B) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 6th Grade
CCSS: 6.G.A.1
CCSS Description: Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.

Area Decomposition (B) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet, split into two sections, requires students to find the area and perimeter of compound shapes made up of triangles and rectangles.

Section A asks students to find the perimeter of six different shapes. Learners will have to remember to include all lengths, even those without labels. However, no calculation of unknown lengths is necessary.

In section B, students will find the area of six compound shapes. We guide students through the process of dividing the shape into rectangles and triangles in order to complete their calculations. Some missing lengths will have to be solved for before the area can be found.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Math.

Frequently Asked Questions

This worksheet is specifically designed for 6th grade students who are developing their understanding of area and perimeter concepts. At this level, students are ready to tackle the challenge of breaking down complex compound shapes into simpler geometric forms like rectangles and triangles.
