Area of Trapezoid (A) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 6th Grade
CCSS: 6.G.A.1
CCSS Description: Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.

Area of Trapezoid (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Help your students master finding the area of trapezoids with this worksheet that encourages students to think deeper than substituting values into the formula for area of a trapezoid.

In section A, students will find the areas of four trapezoids by splitting the quadrilaterals into a rectangle and one or two triangles. Then in section B, learners split four trapezoids into two triangles in order to find the areas.

The formula is developed in section C where two congruent trapezoids are joined to form either rectangles or parallelograms. Students find the areas of the whole shape before halving to find the area of each trapezoid.

Lastly, learners will use the formula to find the area of three more trapezoids.
