Colourful Equivalances (A) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 6th Grade
CCSS: 6.RP.A.3.A, 6.RP.A.3.C
CCSS Description: Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations. Make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole-number measurements, find missing values in the tables, and plot the pairs of values on the coordinate plane. Use tables to compare ratios.

Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity); solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.

Colourful Equivalances (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Once learners are comfortable with fraction, decimal and percentage equivalence of forths, one half, tenths and hundredths use this fun and engaging worksheet to enable students to recognize these equivalences fluently. In section A, students are tasked with finding 3 equivalences out of a possible 6 fractions, decimals and percentages. The fractions, decimals and percentages in each question are designed to draw out misconceptions such as 0.9 = 9% and 40% = 1/40.

Section B gives learners the opportunity to create their own questions. Students can get creative, trying to make their questions harder by thinking of possible misconceptions. Why not encourage learners to swap and have a go at each others work?
