Compare Mixed numbers WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 4th Grade
CCSS: 4.NF.A.2
CCSS Description: Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.

Compare Mixed numbers WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Throughout this worksheet pupils will be comparing and ordering proper fractions and mixed numbers with the same denominator.
In section A pupils recap comparing proper fractions as they choose the greatest of the pair of fractions.
Next, section B asks learners to partition mixed numbers into fractional parts and whole parts using part part whole models.
Bar models are used to aid students in section C as they color in pre-drawn bar models to decide which is the greatest mixed number in four pairs of fractions. In section D, pupils use inequality symbols to compare six further pairs of mixed numbers.
Section D consists of two sets of proper fractions and mixed numbers which learners will put in ascending order.
