Converting Units - Area WORKSHEET
Suitable for Grades: 5th Grade, 7th Grade
CCSS: 5.MD.A.1, 7.RP.A.1
CCSS Description: CCSS Description: Convert among different‑sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system (e.g., convert 5 cm to 0.05 m), and use these conversions in solving multi‑step, real world problems.
Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas, and other quantities measured in like or different units. For example, walk 1/2 mile in 1/4 hour yields a rate of 2 miles per hour.

Converting Units - Area WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
This worksheet uses the concrete representation of the area of congruent rectangles with lengths given in different metric measures to aid students in mastering unit conversion for area.
In Section A, pupils will label congruent rectangles in mm, cm and m and find the area of the rectangles in mm^2, cm^2 and m^2. This concept flows into Section B, here students will use the area of rectangles to show that conversions are true.
Section C looks at the multiplications and divisions that are required when converting between mm^2, cm^2 and m^2. Students will use these in Section D where they will complete 12 conversions.
Converting to and from km^2 is introduced in Section E and lastly students will find the sums of two areas in Section F.
