Suitable for Grades: 2nd Grade
CCSS: 2.MD.C.8
CCSS Description: Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately. Example: If you have 2 dimes and 3 pennies, how many cents do you have?

Equal Amounts (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Working through Equal Amounts (B) with your class or students will ensure that they are confident with ‘unitising’, an essential skill for calculating with money. Understanding unitising when it comes to money, means your students know that one item can have a value other than one for example, that a dime has the same value of 2 nickels.

In Equal Amounts (B) students have eight sets of pairs of purses containing different coins and they must decide whether the purses contain an equal amount of money or not. Skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s is reinforced throughout as purses contain multiples of either 1¢, 5¢, 10¢ or 25¢ coins. No purse contains a mixture of denominations.

Students will be recognising 1¢, 5¢, 10¢ & 25¢ coins throughout.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Math.

Frequently Asked Questions

This worksheet is designed for 2nd grade students who are developing their understanding of money values. At this level, students are ready to work with the concept that coins can represent different values and practice comparing amounts across different denominations. The focus on single coin types in each purse makes it accessible for second graders while still challenging their unitizing skills.
