Estimating Area Under a Graph (A) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: Algebra I, IM 1
CCSS: HSG.MG.A.3
CCSS Description: Apply geometric methods to solve design problems (e.g., designing an object or structure to satisfy physical constraints or minimize cost; working with typographic grid systems based on ratios).

Estimating Area Under a Graph (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet will scaffold the method required for estimating the area under a curve. Section A gives some compound polygons formed on a coordinate axes, bounded by the x-axis and y-axis. Learners need to use the coordinates and other information to find the area of the shapes. Section B then gives three curved graphs which have the strips provided for an estimate of the area to be found. Section C then asks for learners to use 4 strips to find estimated areas for two more curves.
