Evaluating Exponential Expressions WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 8th Grade
CCSS: 8.EE.A.1
CCSS Description: Know and apply the properties of integer exponents to generate equivalent numerical expressions. For example, 32 × 3–5 = 3–3 = 1/33 = 1/27

Evaluating Exponential Expressions WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Students will work with exponents of numbers throughout this worksheet. In section they are asked to find the value of calculations such as 2^5 and 0.6^2 - 0.1^2. Then in section B learners will compare full expressions and exponential notation. Section C gets more complicated, as students consider statements such as 2^n = 8, and they have to state the value of n.

There is also an extension that will see learners investigate negative numbers and exponents. Here, they will find -1 squared, cubed, to the power of four and five, and use their findings to work out -1 to other powers such as 124 and 0.
