Finding Gradients WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: Algebra I, IM 1
CCSS: 8.F.B.4, HSA.CED.A.2
CCSS Description: Construct a function to model a linear relationship between two quantities. Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from a description of a relationship or from two (x, y) values, including reading these from a table or from a graph. Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models, and in terms of its graph or a table of values.

Create equations in two or more variables to represent relationships between quantities; graph equations on coordinate axes with labels and scales.

Finding Gradients WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Students will calculate both positive and negative slopes of straight lines shown on square grids and coordinate grids, as well as calculating the slope of the line joining two points or coordinates.

In section A, learners begin calculating the slope of straight lines on square grids. The section even begins with showing how the slope is calculated.

Learners will progress in section B to calculating slopes of straight lines drawn on coordinate grids. Students will have to check the axes in each question, as we have used different scaling throughout the section.

Section C will provide a challenge for your learners. Here they will find the gradients of lines connecting two points, some of which are drawn on coordinate grids and in some cases only the coordinates are provided.
