Fractions on Number Lines (B) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 4th Grade
CCSS: 4.NF.A.2
CCSS Description: Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.

Fractions on Number Lines (B) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet is designed to extend the understanding gained from Fractions on Number Lines (A) by making learners think about equivalent fractions as well as mixed numbers. Section A asks learners to place a fraction on a number line given the position of another with a denominator which is a factor or multiple of the other. Section B, repeats this task but with mixed numbers. Section C then gives fractions that do not have related denominators, therefore learners will need to find common denominators to help place the required fraction.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Math.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students should be comfortable with basic fraction concepts and have experience placing simple fractions on number lines from previous lessons. They'll also need to understand how to identify factors and multiples, since the worksheet builds on these relationships between denominators to find equivalent fractions.
