Halving Odd Numbers by Halving One Less WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet provides practice of halving two digit odd numbers.

The method used in this case is to subtract 1 from the odd number, find half of the previous even number and finally combine this with half of one. For example, half of 45 is equal to half 44 and half of 1.

Firstly, students will use a decimal number line to find the decimal equivalent of half one in section A.

Section B begins with an example where students will see how the model (which is similar to a part whole) is used before answering 11 questions.
