Multiplying 3 Binomials (B) WORKSHEET
Suitable for Grades: 7th Grade, Algebra I
CCSS: HSA.APR.A.1
CCSS Description: Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers, namely, they are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, and multiplication; add, subtract, and multiply polynomials.
Multiplying 3 Binomials (B) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
This worksheet introduces students to expanding triple parentheses to give expressions in the form ax³ +bx² +cx+d, where a is greater than 1.
Section A consists of 6 questions that are carefully selected so that one set of parentheses changes each time. Section B sees students considering expressions such as (x+ 3)²(x– 3). Expressions in section C have coefficients of x^3 greater than 1, is scaffolded using ‘show that’ questions, and extends to include expressions with two variables. Students will use their knowledge of expanding triple parentheses as they consider the volume of a triangular prism and a cube in section D.
