Multiplying and Simplifying Polynomials WORKSHEET
Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers, namely, they are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, and multiplication; add, subtract, and multiply polynomials.
Multiplying and Simplifying Polynomials WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
Once learners are confident in expanding single brackets, it is important that your students are faced with expressions where expanding and simplifying is necessary. This worksheet provides ample practice expanding and simplifying expressions such as 9 + 3( c + 4 ) and 7k( 8k + 9 ) - 3( k +7 ).
Starting in section A, students can practice these skills with ten expressions that contain one set of parentheses to be expanded and one extra term. Only one variable is present in each expression, and all terms are positive. Building on this, section B introduces positive and negative terms and an extra variable.
In section C, students will expand and simplify expressions that contain two sets of parentheses. Again, all terms are positive to start with, and all but one question contains only one variable.
Finally, section D will challenge and extend students with expressions that contain two sets of parentheses with both positive and negative terms.
