Quadratic Sequences - Using the Quadratic Sequence Formula WORKSHEET
Suitable for Grades: Algebra II, IM 2
CCSS: HSA.SSE.B.4
CCSS Description: Derive the formula for the sum of a finite geometric series (when the common ratio is not 1), and use the formula to solve problems; for example, calculate mortgage payments.
Quadratic Sequences - Using the Quadratic Sequence Formula WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
Students will find the nth term of 13 quadratic sequences using the quadratic formula throughout this worksheet.
In Section A, students substitute values of n into the formula to derive the simplified quadratic formula and to identify expressions for the first and second common differences. Next, in Section B, these expressions are used alongside the sequences to form and solve equations, determining the values of a, b, and c in the formula, which generates the nth term of each sequence.
The questions feature one decreasing sequence, two sequences whose nth term has a coefficient of n^2 greater than 1, and one sequence whose nth term has a fractional coefficient of n^2.
