Rotations and Reflections of Polygons WORKSHEET
Suitable for Grades: 8th Grade
CCSS: 8.G.A.1
CCSS Description: Verify experimentally the properties of rotations, reflections, and translations: a. Lines are taken to lines, and line segments to line segments of the same length. b. Angles are taken to angles of the same measure. c. Parallel lines are taken to parallel lines.
Rotations and Reflections of Polygons WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
Work with both rotational and line symmetry together throughout this worksheet.
In section A, students will state the order of rotational symmetry and draw lines of symmetry on a variety of twelve regular and irregular polygons. Tracing paper may be used by your learners if accessible. After completion, it’s worth asking your students what differences they notice with irregular and regular polygons.
Next, section B consists of four ‘show me’ questions where students will draw polygons that fit certain criteria such as a polygon with infinite rotational symmetry.
Section C will see students articulate their reasoning with three always, sometimes, and never statements.
