Simplify Algebraic Fractions (B) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: Algebra I, IM 1
CCSS: HSA.APR.D.6
CCSS Description: Rewrite simple rational expressions in different forms; write a(x)/b(x) in the form q(x) + r(x)/b(x), where a(x), b(x), q(x), and r(x) are polynomials with the degree of r(x) less than the degree of b(x), using inspection, long division, or, for the more complicated examples, a computer algebra system.

Simplify Algebraic Fractions (B) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet focuses on the simplification of complex algebraic fractions. Students will be factorizing mono and non-monic quadratic expressions throughout.

In Section A learners will match up pairs equivalent fractions, encouraging them to see the expressions in factored and expanded form.

Next, students complete a fill the blanks task which will challenge yet guide them through the process of simplification. There are 6 questions to complete which increase in difficulty.

Students are required to work forwards and backwards here to solve the problems.

Now learners are ready to simplify the algebraic fractions unguided. Section C consists of 15 further questions that again increase in difficulty as the section progresses.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Math.

Frequently Asked Questions

This worksheet is designed for Algebra I and IM 1 students who are working with algebraic fractions. The content builds systematically from guided practice to independent work, making it suitable for students who have already learned basic factoring techniques and are ready to apply them to fraction simplification.
