Solving Two Step Equations WORKSHEET
Suitable for Grades: 6th Grade
CCSS: 6.EE.B.6, 6.EE.B.7
CCSS Description: Use variables to represent numbers and write expressions when solving a real-world or mathematical problem; understand that a variable can represent an unknown number, or, depending on the purpose at hand, any number in a specified set.
Solve real‑world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations of the form x + p = q and p x = q for nonnegative rational numbers.
Solve real‑world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations of the form x + p = q and p x = q for nonnegative rational numbers.
Solving Two Step Equations WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
This worksheet demonstrates through the use of examples, how bar models, function machines and algebra tiles can be used to aid learners when solving two step equations. A section is dedicated to each model and section D consists of three equations to be solved with students being encouraged to choose the model they use. Students will solve 10 equations in total.
For variation, learners will come across equations with the equals sign and variables in different places; however, none of the equations involve division. Two equations require students to operate with decimals.
