Stratified Sampling (A) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 7th Grade, Geometry
CCSS: 7.SP.A.1, HSS.IC.A.1
CCSS Description: Understand that statistics can be used to gain information about a population by examining a sample of the population; generalizations about a population from a sample are valid only if the sample is representative of that population. Understand that random sampling tends to produce representative samples and support valid inferences.

Understand statistics as a process for making inferences about population parameters based on a random sample from that population.

Stratified Sampling (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Section A provides two tables of data and the size of the total sample required, so that learners can calculate the size of each strata. Section B provides some similar tables but with other some strata sizes given, but other missing information to be found. Use this worksheet alongside Sample Bias and Stratified Sampling (B).

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Math.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students should be comfortable with proportional reasoning and basic fraction operations since they'll need to determine how each stratum relates to the total sample size. The problems require calculating missing values in tables, so strong arithmetic skills and the ability to set up and solve simple equations will help students work through both sections effectively.
