Tiling Problems (A) WORKSHEET
Suitable for Grades: 5th Grade, 6th Grade
CCSS: HSG.MG.A.3
CCSS Description: Apply geometric methods to solve design problems (e.g., designing an object or structure to satisfy physical constraints or minimize cost; working with typographic grid systems based on ratios).
Tiling Problems (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
This activity is designed to promote thinking about areas, factors and metric measures. Learners will need to work out the number of tiles of a given size, that can fit in a rectangular wall or a compound shape made from rectangles. Sections A, B, and C ask learners to use square tiles of sizes 20cm, 50cm, and 25cm respectively. Section D then extends the situation to involve rectangular tiles. Section E then provides two real-life problems to solve.
