Using Prime Factors to Identify Square, Cube Numbers and Roots WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 8th Grade
CCSS: 8.EE.A.2
CCSS Description: Use square root and cube root symbols to represent solutions to equations of the form x2 = p and x3 = p, where p is a positive rational number. Evaluate square roots of small perfect squares and cube roots of small perfect cubes. Know that √2 is irrational.

Using Prime Factors to Identify Square, Cube Numbers and Roots WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet will help students develop a deeper understanding of prime number and prime factorisation as they learn to identify square and cube numbers as well as finding square and cube roots.

Firstly learners will find the prime factorisation of 5 square and 3 cube numbers before considering what the answers have in common. Then students will use their findings to identify a square and cube number from a list of 6 numbers using their prime factor decomposition. To end, students will then use the product of primes of 3 squares and 3 cube numbers to easily find their roots.
