Cubing Numbers WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 8th Grade
CCSS: 6.EE.A.1, 8.EE.A.2
CCSS Description: Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole‑number exponents.

Use square root and cube root symbols to represent solutions to equations of the form x2 = p and x3 = p, where p is a positive rational number. Evaluate square roots of small perfect squares and cube roots of small perfect cubes. Know that √2 is irrational.

Cubing Numbers WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet is designed to link the concrete visual representation of cube numbers to the numerical index notation form. Section A asks learners to think about the number of small cubes that form larger cubes. Section B presents a completion table showing the visual, index notation and numerical value of some cube numbers. Section C asks learners to complete the list of the first 10 cube numbers. Section D gives a fill-in-the-box activity for either the base number or the cube number. Section E asks learners to circle the cube numbers in a list of random integers, and finally, section F provides more boxes to fill to solve problems involving cube and square numbers.
