Linear Functions: Card Sort WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 8th Grade
CCSS: 8.F.B.4
CCSS Description: Construct a function to model a linear relationship between two quantities. Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from a description of a relationship or from two (x, y) values, including reading these from a table or from a graph. Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models, and in terms of its graph or a table of values.

Linear Functions: Card Sort WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Challenge your students with this hands-on activity! Students will match 18 sets of equations, tables of values, and graphs, reinforcing their understanding of linear relationships.

Equations include those parallel to the x and y axis, as well as forms like y = mx, y = x + c, and y = mx + c. Four equations have a negative gradient, and two have fractional gradients.

For an extra challenge, some values in the tables do not appear on the graphs, so students will need to substitute values into equations and use pattern recognition to complete the puzzle.

Perfect for independent work or group tasks, this activity sharpens skills in identifying and interpreting different representations of functions.
