Ratio - Difference Known WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 6th Grade, 7th Grade
CCSS: 6.RP.A.1, 7.RP.A.3
CCSS Description: Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. For example, “The ratio of wings to beaks in the bird house at the zoo was 2:1, because for every 2 wings there was 1 beak.” “For every vote candidate A received, candidate C received nearly three votes.”

Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems, including simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, and percent error.

Ratio - Difference Known WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet provides a structured approach to solving ratio problems where the difference between quantities is known.

In Section A learners will compare two questions: one where the ratio is given and a total, in the other a ratio is given and the difference between the quantities is known. Learners will consider how the two different problems can be solved.

In Section B, students will answer a set of 8 minimally different questions. The problems require students to calculate not just one missing quantity but also the total number of individuals based on a given ratio.

Section C takes the application further by introducing more complex scenarios, including medal counts in the Olympics and inheritance divisions, requiring students to work with multi-part ratios and differences.

This worksheet is an excellent resource for reinforcing ratio knowledge, ensuring students develop confidence and accuracy in working with ratios.
