Ratio- One Amount Known WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 6th Grade, 7th Grade
CCSS: 6.RP.A.1, 7.RP.A.3
CCSS Description: Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. For example, “The ratio of wings to beaks in the bird house at the zoo was 2:1, because for every 2 wings there was 1 beak.” “For every vote candidate A received, candidate C received nearly three votes.”

Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems, including simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, and percent error.

Ratio- One Amount Known WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This resource focuses on solving ratio problems where one quantity is provided.

Section A kicks things off by asking learners to compare two questions: one where the ratio is given and a total is known, and the other where a ratio is given and one part of the total is known.

In Section B, students will answer a set of 8 minimally different questions. The problems require students to calculate one missing quantity and the total number of individuals based on a given ratio.

Lastly, Section C poses more complex problems which require students to apply their understanding of ratios in more practical contexts, involving multiple steps and the combination of different quantities.

Each section is progressively more challenging, encouraging students to deepen their understanding of ratios and their ability to apply this knowledge in various contexts.
