Scale Factors and Dilations of Polygons (A) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Grades: 8th Grade
CCSS: 8.G.A.4
CCSS Description: Understand that a two-dimensional figure is similar to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, translations, and dilations; given two similar two-dimensional figures, describe a sequence that exhibits the similarity between them.

Scale Factors and Dilations of Polygons (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This dilations worksheet will give your students practice dilating three polygons (twice each) from a given center of dilation by positive integer or fractional scale factors.

The polygons are made up of a triangle with some tricky sides to contend with, an irregular dodecagon with horizontal and vertical sides, and two different scalene trapezoids. All centers of dilation do not touch the objects. The scale factors are two, three, and a half.

All transformations can be carried out on the square grid which is the background of the worksheet. Objects are translucent to aid your students. Ensure students are equipped with a pencil and a ruler to complete their drawings.
