Simplifying Ratios WORKSHEET
Suitable for Grades: 6th Grade
CCSS: 6.RP.A.1
CCSS Description: Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. For example, “The ratio of wings to beaks in the bird house at the zoo was 2:1, because for every 2 wings there was 1 beak.” “For every vote candidate A received, candidate C received nearly three votes.”
Simplifying Ratios WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
Students are guided through simplifying ratios step by step using division by the greatest common factor in this well organized worksheet.
In sections A - E, students are given ratios and the greatest common factor they can divided by, meaning they only have to provide the simplified answer. Take time to discuss similarities in ratios that divide by the same factors to aid your learners' development.
Next up, students are given the original and simplified ratios in sections F and G and are tasked with stating the common factor that the original ratio was divided by.
Finally, section H sees students simplifying 24 ratios independently.
