Substituting into Expressions (A) WORKSHEET
Suitable for Grades: 6th Grade
CCSS: 6.EE.A.2.C
CCSS Description: Evaluate expressions at specific values of their variables. Include expressions that arise from formulas used in real-world problems. Perform arithmetic operations, including those involving whole-number exponents, in the conventional order when there are no parentheses to specify a particular order (Order of Operations). For example, use the formulas V = s3 and A = 6 s2 to find the volume and surface area of a cube with sides of length s = 1/2.
Substituting into Expressions (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
This is the perfect place to start with learning to substitute. The worksheet is split into three sections which increase in difficulty. Students are required to substitute only one value into each expression, the value remains the same throughout each section, and all values are positive integers. The worksheet is well laid out. Questions are presented in a table made up of three columns: one for expression, one for calculation, and one for the final value of the expression.
The expressions in section A contain only two terms and one operation. In section B, expressions contain two terms but two operations, and in section C, the expressions contain up to three terms and three operations.
