Addition Grids Adding 1s to 4 Digit Numbers WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 4
Learning objective: Mentally add a single digit to a four digit number.

Addition Grids Adding 1s to 4 Digit Numbers WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

These addition grids enable children to understand the commutativity of addition as they find the sum of numbers at the top of each column and start of each row.

This set of addition grids will see learners adding ones to 4 digit numbers. The questions increase in difficulty as the worksheet progresses; starting with adding a single digit to a multiple of 1,000, then multiples of 100 and 10 before progressing to adding ones to any 4 digit number (firstly without exchanges and then with exchanges).

There are 36 questions to answer in total.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

These grids are specifically designed to help Year 4 children mentally add a single digit to a four digit number, building their confidence with larger numbers. The grid format encourages pupils to recognise patterns and use their understanding that addition works the same way regardless of which number comes first. This systematic approach helps children develop fluency with mental calculation strategies they'll use throughout their mathematical learning.
