Counting Sides and Vertices WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 2
Learning objective: Identify and describe the properties of 2-D shapes, including the number of sides and vertices.

Counting Sides and Vertices WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Learners will identify 2D shapes, count sides and vertices of 2D shapes and use information about shapes to solve problems whilst completing this worksheet.
In section A, pupils are faced with 12 images of various 2D shapes which they will name and state how many sides and vertices each one has.

Then in section B, pupils will use clues to draw and name shapes as well as counting vertices and sides in images made up of two or more 2D shapes.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

This worksheet introduces key geometric terminology that Year 2 pupils need to master, particularly 'sides' and 'vertices'. Children will learn that vertices are the corner points where two sides meet, which is fundamental vocabulary for describing 2D shapes accurately. Through repeated practice with naming shapes and counting these features, pupils build confidence with mathematical language they'll use throughout their geometry learning.
