Draw 2D Shapes (A) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 2
Learning objective: Draw shapes using a straight edge.

Draw 2D Shapes (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Draw 2D Shapes (A) is designed to aid students draw two-dimensional shapes by connecting dots on a grid and beginning to use a ruler.

Section A presents grids with marks representing the vertices of 2D shapes. Students are instructed to use a ruler to connect these vertices, revealing various 2D shapes. After drawing, they are encouraged to name the shapes they have created.

Next, in section B pupils will continue to connect dots however, each shape is missing one vertex. Learners need to identify the location of the missing vertex, complete the shape using a ruler, and identify the 2D shape they have drawn.

The final section requires students to use a ruler to draw specific shapes on a grid.

Shapes included on this resource are: squares, triangles, pentagons, rectangles, hexagons, kites and parallelograms and trapeziums.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your child will develop their understanding of shape properties while practising the important skill of drawing shapes using a straight edge. They'll work with a variety of polygons including squares, triangles, pentagons, rectangles, hexagons, kites, parallelograms and trapeziums. This hands-on approach helps cement their knowledge of different 2D shapes whilst building fine motor skills.
