Identifying Regular and Irregular Polygons WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 4, Year 5
Learning objective: Compare lengths and angles to decide if a polygon is regular or irregular

Identifying Regular and Irregular Polygons WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Learners will identify shapes and classify them as regular or irregular polygons whilst completing this worksheet.

In section A, there are nine shapes for pupils to consider; comparing the lengths and angles of the shapes to decide if they are regular or irregular polygons or indeed, not a polygon.

Next, learners will choose the ‘odd one out’ from three sets of three shapes, articulating their rationale for their choice.

Rulers and pencils are needed for section C, as students will draw two regular and two irregular polygons on an isometric grid.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Regular polygons have all sides of equal length and all angles of equal size, whilst irregular polygons have sides or angles that differ in measurement. When comparing lengths and angles to decide if a polygon is regular or irregular, pupils should check both properties carefully, as a shape needs equal sides AND equal angles to be classified as regular.
