Solving Equations with One Unknown WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 6
Learning objective: Substituting values into formulae, arithmetic

Solving Equations with One Unknown WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Pupils will find missing values to solve equations.

In section A, they will need to find the value of the symbol to make the calculation true.

In section B, a scaffolded approach to solving equations using a balancing method is introduced for some one-step equations.

This is then extended to two-step equations in section C.

The scaffolding is then removed for section D.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

This worksheet focuses on substituting values into formulae and arithmetic, which are fundamental algebra concepts for Year 6 pupils. Your child will learn to work backwards from known results to find unknown values, developing their logical reasoning skills. The progression from symbol-finding to formal equation solving helps bridge the gap between arithmetic and algebraic thinking.
