Using a Time Line to Find Durations WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 3
Learning objective: Finding time durations using a time line

Using a Time Line to Find Durations WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet is designed to help learners calculate durations between times by using a timeline to partition the duration into sensible amounts. the worksheet ramps up the difficulty but with scaffolding along the way.

Section A asks learners to give a missing time for a given duration before section B then reverses the instruction and asks for a duration between two simple times with either the times being in the same hour or a whole number of hours apart.

Sections C and d then lead learners through the process of splitting the durations by working up to the next whole hour.

Section E then provides more challenging times for learners to use the new process.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your child will learn to use a timeline approach, which involves breaking down time calculations into manageable chunks by working up to the next whole hour first. This systematic method helps Year 3 pupils visualise the time passing and makes complex duration problems much more accessible than trying to calculate everything in one go.
