Learning objective: Use inverse operations to check answers to a calculation

Using Inverses to Check Answers Addition and Subtraction WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet will give your learners opportunity to practise their preferred methods for multiplication and division whilst using inverse operations to either check answers to calculations or solve missing number problems.

Students are reminded of the multiplication and division fact families in section A and introduced to inverse calculations.

In section B pupils will put this knowledge to use across three different questions.

The calculations students will complete are 3 digits divided by a single digit or 2 digits multiplied by a single digit.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

When your child completes a multiplication calculation like 23 × 4 = 92, they can check this answer by using the inverse operation of division: 92 ÷ 4 should equal 23. This method helps Year 4 students build confidence in their calculations and spot any errors they might have made. It's particularly useful when working with larger numbers where mistakes are more likely to occur.
