Collecting Like Terms - Using Algebra Tiles WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet uses algebra tiles to aid students in recognising like terms and forming zero pairs in order to simplify expressions, a fundamental algebraic skill.

Section A introduces algebra tiles by asking learners to match expressions to the correct representation using algebra tiles. One expression does not match, students will draw tiles to represent this expression.

Next, in section B students will use algebra tiles to simplify the expressions by collecting like terms. Here the tiles are drawn for students and the questions increase in difficulty gradually. Section C is similar however, this time the tiles are not already shown.

Two reasoning questions follow as students are asked to ascertain whether an identity statement is correct or not and to write at least 5 equivalent expressions.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.
