Coordinate Shapes WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 7, Year 8
GCSE Tier: Foundation
Targeting grades: 1-3
Prerequisite knowledge: Can plot coordinates in four quadrants.
Learning Objective: Plot and join coordinates in all 4 quadrants to form polygons

Coordinate Shapes WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Continue to practice plotting coordinates in all four quadrants with a twist, with our worksheet ‘Coordinate Shapes’.

Here we have provided five-coordinate grids alongside five sets of four coordinates. Each pair of coordinates is the vertex of a quadrilateral. Students will plot each coordinate on the corresponding grid then decide how they should connect the points to form a quadrilateral before naming the shape they have drawn.

We have created two versions of this worksheet in case your learners may need a helping hand remembering and naming the quadrilaterals. The option with clues provides a named drawing of 6 different quadrilaterals.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students should already be comfortable plotting coordinates in all four quadrants before tackling this activity. This prerequisite knowledge forms the foundation for the more complex task of connecting plotted points to create recognisable shapes. Without this foundational skill, learners may struggle to focus on the geometric reasoning required to identify quadrilaterals.
