Describing Single Transformations WORKSHEET
Describing Single Transformations WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION
Students should only describe transformations using a single transformation throughout this worksheet. Learners will identify the transformation from rotation, reflection, translation and enlargement that maps an object to an image in nine questions all on their own set of axes. Objects and images are clearly labelled and translucent to aid students. Tracing paper may be useful and should be accessible to students whilst they complete this task.
Ensure students only use correct mathematical language and include all the required information to describe transformations. Avoiding words such as flip, mirror, turn and move.
Enlargements only have positive integer scale factors, making the worksheet suitable for both higher and foundation-tier students.
All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions
Students should already be comfortable carrying out reflections, rotations, translations using column vectors, and enlargements on coordinate grids before tackling this describing transformations task. They'll also need to work confidently with coordinates across all four quadrants and understand special lines like x=a, y=b, and y=x, as these form the foundation for accurately identifying and describing the transformations they observe.
