Drawing tangents WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 10, Year 11
GCSE Tier: Higher
Targeting grades: 6-7
Prerequisite knowledge: Measuring angles, finding gradients.
Learning Objective: To be able to draw tangents to curves

Drawing tangents WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet is designed for use before Estimating Rates of Change (A). It provides some opportunities for learners to practise drawing tangents.

Section A gives some circles and the accuracy of the tangents can be checked by measuring the angle between the tangent and the radius at the point.

Section B gives graphs and points for required tangents. The gradients of the tangents are given as a guide for accuracy.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students should be comfortable with measuring angles and finding gradients before tackling this activity. These foundational skills are essential because learners will need to measure angles between tangents and radii to check their accuracy in the circle section, and they'll use gradient calculations to verify their tangent drawings on the graph sections.
