Equations of Tangents to Circles WORKSHEET

This worksheet will help learners practise finding equations of lines which are tangent to a circle.

Section A gives two circles and asks learners to find the gradient of the radii and tangents at two given points.

Section B then gives a circle equation and a point on the circle for the tangent equation to be found.

Section C gives either the x or y value and whether the other value is positive or negative.

Section D then asks for the points where the tangent at a point on a circle would intercept the coordinate axes.

An extension question asks for the area of a triangle formed by the xy-axes, a circle with a given centre and a tangent at a given point.
