Estimating Area Under a Graph (A) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 10, Year 11
GCSE Tier: Higher
Targeting grades: 8-9
Prerequisite knowledge: Coordinates, area of triangles, rectangles and trapeziums.
Learning Objective: To be able to estimate the area under a curved graph using triangles and trapeziums.

Estimating Area Under a Graph (A) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

This worksheet will scaffold the method required for estimating the area under a curve.

Section A gives some compound polygons formed on coordinate axes, bounded by the x-axis and y-axis. Learners need to use the coordinates and other information to find the area of the shapes.

Section B then gives three curved graphs which have the strips provided for an estimate of the area to be found.

Section C then asks for learners to use 4 strips to find estimated areas for two more curves.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

This worksheet is designed for Year 10 and Year 11 students studying Higher tier GCSE mathematics. It targets students working towards grades 8-9, so it's quite challenging and requires a solid foundation in coordinate geometry and area calculations.
