Finding the Whole (B) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Finding the Whole (B) is designed to enhance students' understanding of fractions and will see them finding the whole when given a part.

Section A uses bar models in order to build students' confidence and aid in understanding this abstract concept.

Next, learners are asked to spot, explain, and correct an error, reinforcing their understanding and developing articulation.

Section C again asks pupils to find a whole when given a fraction of it, however this time the bar model has been removed and there is added challenge as the section included calculations with mixed numbers and fraction addition and subtraction.

Lastly, section D involves more complex scenarios where students find different fractions of the same number.

Pupils will be working with non unit fractions throughout and most answers are integers.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students should be comfortable with finding fractions of amounts before tackling this resource. This foundational skill is essential because the worksheet reverses the process - instead of finding a part when given the whole, pupils work backwards to find the whole when given just a fraction of it. The bar models in Section A help bridge this conceptual gap by providing visual support.
