In Terms of Pi (C) WORKSHEET

Suitable for Year groups: Year 9, Year 10
GCSE Tier: Foundation/Higher
Targeting grades: 6-7
Prerequisite knowledge: Calculate the area and circumference of a circle. Rearrange formulae.
Learning Objective: Finding the volume and surface area of cylinders in terms of pi

In Terms of Pi (C) WORKSHEET DESCRIPTION

Here is a non-calculator worksheet on the volume and surface area of cylinders. Answers where appropriate will be left in terms of pi.

Section A is about finding the volume given either the radius or diameter and the height.

Section B is about finding the surface area given either the radius or diameters and the height.

Section C then gives four cylinders with missing values to be found by working backwards from a given volume or surface area.

All worksheets are created by the team of experienced teachers at Cazoom Maths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students should be comfortable calculating the area and circumference of a circle using π, as these skills form the foundation for cylinder calculations. They'll also need to confidently rearrange formulae, particularly when tackling the reverse problems where they're working backwards from given volumes or surface areas to find missing dimensions.
